The Tee Shot

Though many people think the short game is the most frustrating, the beginnings of anyone's annoyance starts on the first shot: off the tee. Trying to hit a little white dimply ball off a tiny wooden peg stuck in the grass can drive the calmest person to animated displays of anger. However, before tossing that bag of clubs in the garbage and swear to the heavens above that they will never touch a golf club again, here are a few basic tips that will help improve anyone's golf swing mechanics.

When initially approaching that little white dimply ball on that tiny peg in the grass, the golfer should only be thinking about their first action. Their first action is the backswing. Hitting the ball is a product of that backswing. Don't focused so intently on whacking that ball. Instead, concentrate on the mechanics while keeping an eye on the ball. The back swing will work from the top down. The arms and shoulders turn first, and then the hips and legs follow providing some power to the swing.

The Golf Backswing

The golfer should concentrate on keeping his or her feet firmly on the ground. This will keep the entire body anchored and strong. Having an athletic stance while perched over that ball will help with agility and power. Being balanced and relaxed with body weight evenly distributed over both feet contributes to the balance. When beginning the backswing, the body must also coil. Coiling will create the torque necessary for a powerful swing and will allow the hips to turn with speed and power toward the ball.
